Adu arrived today in Lisbon to sign a 5 year contract with SL Benfica.

I don`t think he made it in MLS tbh I do think Benefica might help.... bring him down to earth.(massive eggo) He was here in central florida I spoke to him he didn`t even look at me  I blame his P.A. and P.R. they have him believe he can fly w/o wings.

Funny 1 moment he`s a Chelsea fan and then a ManUtd fan and I`m sure he`ll say he`s a Benefica fan , a bit of youthfulness at the mouth.Saying that I hope the best for him

Bebo you are right just look at this:

quotes by Freddy Adu @ Benfica:

"I'm living a true dream!"
"In the US we follow all games of the UEFA Champions League, and many people here know Benfica very well. Before moving to Benfica I knew that I would meet Rui Costa, Simão, Nuno Gomes, Luisão, Nélson... and many others. For me this is a dream come true to join to this giant club at my current age[18 years old]."
"How can I say that? I'm 18 and I'm playing at Benfica, for me it's just fabolous!"
"I hope to win many things at Benfica. I guess we can win the Portuguese league this year. I want to help so much this club, because their fans and supporters are just superb and Benfica is the best club team in Portugal!"

He is going to love Portugal ,but don`t expect him to play in many games. He needs a lot of grooming ( he could be the next simao ;) ) him and Di maria baby dynamites

he was a excellent player in MLS, he just didnt dominate and shouldn't have expected too. His expectations in the media were and always have been way to high. While he played for DC, he was a very good player. He went to a terrible team this year and it showed. He definatley needs to develop his game, and i thinik benfica is a great place to do it

I think the best player we bought this summer was Oscar Cardozo, oh boy that will hurt to see him shoting some rockets with his amazing gifted left foot and brilliant technique.

;)

Yea I believe Freddy could develop into a great player sometime but the expectations were so high in the States before he even stepped on to the field, it was rediculous. They expected him to score like every game when he was 15. From the looks of it, scoring isn't his best quality either, I would say passing and his vision are his greatest strengths.

Where would he play at Benfica? He seems to play best as a central attacking midfielder or as a withdrawn striker.

Hey!

Things are finally done, I have officially signed with Benfica! I can not even tell you how happy I am…I have tears in my eyes writing this blog right now. Playing for a BIG club Europe has been a lifelong dream of mine and it’s finally happened. Wow, I’m speechless right now. I’ve said publicly many times that I wanted to go to Europe after 4 years in the MLS, and I was able to accomplish that in 3 and a half years. It just makes me happy to know that I can accomplish anything I set my mind to, even when people were down on me and were saying negative things.

Thanks to EVERYONE that has posted comments on my website in the last few weeks! A special thank you to all the Benfica fans that have posted…I read ALL the comments, they meant a lot to me and helped with my decision making. Knowing that you all supported me, and most importantly wanted me to be a part of the club, made me feel good about coming to Portugal. I hope you continue to share my experiences with me on www.freddyadu.com To my fans, sponsors and teammates at RSL and DC United, I couldn’t have done it without you. Thank you.

On another note I LOOOOOVE Portugal. What a beautiful country and great people! Playing for Benfica will have its benefits…my teammates are very cool and half of them speak fluent English which will help A LOT! The stadium is unreal and I can not wait to step foot on it. All in all I am the happiest I’ve been in a long time. It feels like everything has turned out the way it was supposed to.

Let’s GO BENFICA!!!!!!

:)

Adu will wear the #30 from Miccoli and Di Maria will wear the jersey #20 from Simão.

I hope they honour the club and the numbers!
