Need advices for defending online

I keep letting my opponent to have clear path to the net, as a result I lost tons of games. When the opponent pass the ball to their attacker, the com auto-switch to the closest defender and I having hard time staying infront of the attacker and the other 3 defenders just standing aroound. I also tried double team the attacker, then he just thru-pass to the open player. Any suggestions?
