A new entry in Ubisoft's Rainbow Six franchise is on its way that will see the series return to its strategic roots, according to a Kotaku tipster.

Though no name for the project has been settled on yet, the source claimed that the game will see your team attempting to thwart a homegrown terrorist attack on New York City.

It'll be more story-driven than recent entries in the long-running tactical FPS series, but see a renewed focus on stealth and strategy over reckless gunplay.

The new game will apparently sport a new "icon-rich" visual style and include a cover system which sees the action briefly switching from first person to third person.

Ubisoft has declined to comment on the leak.

This isn't first time talk of a new Rainbow Six games has popped up. Last month "Rainbow Six (2011)" appeared on a developer resumé while Ubisoft has been sitting on the www.rainbowsix-bd.com domain name since 2009.

An E3 reveal perhaps? We wouldn't bet against it.

This excites me

Shame i think that it'll be CODified in some way despite the promises of stealth over gun-play. I'd be pretty happy for any kind of game like the old Rainbow Six's right now.

I love Rainbow Six Vegas 1 and 2, superb games. I cant/wont/dont play any other FPS games bar this series. Really looking forward to this. :)

Vegas 1 and 2 were the best FPS's we have had on the next gen consoles imo

Wow, a new R6 would be great. Loved to play Vegas 2 online with some friends. Only thing that sucked at Vegas 2 was the fact that german and international versions weren't able to play online together.

Looking forward for Ubisoft's E3 press conference on Monday.

I started playing Vegas 2 in co-op mode, but then didn't get back to it. Will look it out again though and complete.

Guess I've to see what it's like, whilst being a bit outdated, but hardly say I was overly impressed as some of you guys were.

Well I am going to go against everyone here.

I really hope they return to the original roots.
I loved the originals upto Raven Shield. Then got really pissed off and annoyed when the Vegas games got turned to a console game.

I really hope they stay true to their word.
