Agreed. Ipswich-Yeah bc that star means a lot when you won it about 48 years ago and teams like tiny Netherlands have been consistently outperforming England on the intl stage.. Even without having a single star to show for it.

No silverware though, which is all that matters. Agree about Holland's perfomance though.

A honest question here: I read that "soccer" is the third most played sports in the US lately, only behind Basketball and Baseball. Is this true? Always expected American Football to be played by far more people in the US than soccer.

Soccer is played at the youth level more than any other sport in US. I'm not sure how many individuals play it age 14 and up compared to the big three: baseball, basketball, and American football. I can definitely tell you that it's growing in popularity. American football is still the one sport that dominates our national consciousness, but it is significantly more expensive to set up and operate when compared to soccer, which I think has aided soccer's rising popularity. There have also been a lot of conversations about concussions sustained playing American football, so I think parents are a little more hesitant to allow their children to play it.

but why is that? FIFA is governing body for football in the whole world. UEFA is under FIFA and FA is under UEFA...so it is logical that when FIFA bans someone he is also banned in competitions held by UEFA and any football federation under it.

even if the US are our biggest rivals i am supporting them as well as any other Concacaf team.. as long as we dont clash in any tournament!

NFL has the shortest season of most sports here, (15) games or something. Competitive 'soccer' is played at U9 so most kids play this sport until U16. After that some will venture off to another sport. Some will continue playing (2-3) different sports as its played in different seasons throughout the year. As you can see Sports has more to do w/ a person`s back ground culture-wise . The blessing of foreigners living amongst each other. Most fathers want their son playing NFL ,but this is changing rapidly. Most gk were basketball players at one time or another as a kid. My son was playing High School and U19. Today he`s playing for his University.

Thanks, sono. Press in the US reported that Mexico fans stayed in Recife after their match against Croatia to help cheer on the US today. That's awesome if true! Mexico and Costa Rica have the opportunity to possibly play an all-CONCACAF quarterfinal if they each win their respective Round of 16 matches. How great would that be for the region?! CONCACAF would then be guaranteed a spot in one of the semi-final matchups -- in which one of those two could (long shot, I know) play the US. ¡Buena suerte, México y Costa Rica!
