Removal of the post count.

Yeh this a good idea, cos no matter what anyone says one of the first things you do is look at someone's post count. Then you make assumption of that person lol, but as everyone says it's useless.

Plus now you can all concentrate more on my lovely avatar :p

This is good...I have many friends who like to spam forums just to get higher post counts so they be so cool typing away at their keyboards to be cooler than everyone with their post counts. This really can deter many from spamming...worst sight is pesinsight, you get points for each post, causing many people to spam threads with messages like "Yer i agre wit te gy abve me hes smrt yeh yay 10 points."

So the point of this? I think gettin rid of the post count should be permaninizated.
 
I quite enjoyed having a post count, although it doesn't really serve a useful function. Is there some way you can have it on if you want to and off if you don't?

Anyways saw this thread yesterday and thought i'd post my opinions if its of any value.

First when I saw this thread by Sulph and few others agreeing, I thought I must have missed something in past few days. :mrgreen: and I was right lol, I had missed it. Having now talked to Sulph, I know of a few who he was referring to.

I have to say though honestly myself I haven't been able to convince myself either way whether this is a good thing or bad thing. From one way I see plenty of good reasons why this IS a good thing because believe it or not at the end of the day, not everybody is smart/mature and has a life outside and so certain people think it's cool to have higher posts than others :lol: and will even think it's something important/prestigious.

For this reason I think it's a good thing that posts are removed as well as some newbies who come in and have low # like 2 or 3 posts and are sometimes quickly judged by people or put down as newbs or think its important to have high # of posts so will either feel shit cuz they think they're not gettin respect they should be getting because of this low count which is bullshit. We should judge each other by behaviour and who he is not by # of posts OR thye feel they have to get their posts count up soon to get respect so will start spamming.

For example a few days ago somebody I saw was asking a tactical question about WE9 but he had low number of posts and somehow cuz he didn't get an answer quick, he thought people were ignoring him because of his low # of posts :shock:. Of course I dont give a shit about this stuff, so I went ahead and expained to him the best i could but before that I never thought post numbers were this important but now I can see people either think it's a big deal and feel threatened by their low one OR are showin off cuz they're on their keyboard posting useless crap all day.

But while these points are made are FOR this idea, I also have to admit that there is quite a large # of people with high number of posts whom I NEVER see post crap or something that has no point.

One example is Milanista. This guy has a large number of posts but when he does so there is a point to it and it's not something we could do without and say he's postboosting. At least I've never seen him do it and he's not only one.

As for myself, due to my love for PES/WE games and this being the best site for patching talk, I have a large number of posts but personally don't give a shit about it, after all it's not exactly a cool thing lol but in my case i dont feel bad about it either because when I post there is a point/comment/explanation that is useful.

I have a high number of posts but I also think I have probably highest or top 5 number of LONG-posters. The number of posts I have which exceed 10 lines or so are everywhere and on average my normal post is at least 3-4 lines because there is a point to it.

Only posts I have which are about a line or less are when I'm acknowledging our community's editors for their good effort whether its kits/faces/supporter flags or whatever and I feel this is necessary. We all need encouragement to go on and usually with my Well Done. Great job coments is also a point or question.

Overall I still don't know which idea I want as I can see good or bad about having and NOt having it but thought I'd present my thoughts as well.

Personally though I feel whether this does reduce spamming or not we could do with more warnings when we see pointless messages by these individuals written like a single "Yeh". I mean that's not a post, its a post boost and unlike me some people actually care about this and make stupid comments like "MY post is higher than yours lol" even though that is really gay. :lol: so we can give warnings to these people when we see it instead of removing post counts though we could also still do this if we do decide to make this permanent still. ;)

yaih post count is useless.

I say permanent. ;)

The join date should stay so that sometimes we can see detect spams like "free ipod" and such.

But I wouldn't mind seeing back the line where one could put the team they supported, like the one that existed in the previous version of the forum. :)
 
Yes that would be very cool indeed.

Maybe team maybe favourite player, things like that that are actually interesting.

But good call on the removal though. Hopefully this will encourage people to make more thoughtful and helpful posts.

And I like Sulph's idea of a favourite team bit (maybe with a shield mini-avatar next to our names?).

I like this idea too, although personally, I'd like a choice between classic badge and recent one, as is the case for many "top" clubs.
 
I reckon a team-badges thing might inspire a few "no wonder, you're a *whatever* fan" posts. While there's people on here who make it clear who they support, a lot don't like to advertise it. Myself included; if people knew I was a Tranmere suporter nobody would listen to me :(

Personally I prefer permaninizated.

It's easy enough to add a favourite team section to profiles, like the Xbox Live gamertag thing, if you set it, it will appear under your name, if not blankness rules.

That's as far as it'll go though, no badges etc. as that would require modding the forum, which I try to avoid where possible.

Shame it doesn't have "Supports:" instead of "Team:" like on some other forum I go to, I could have put "wife and two kids"... ahh never mind my jokes get bloody worse. :(
